Punat is a village located on the eastern coast of Puntarska draga, on the southern coast of the island of Krk, just 8 km from the town of Krk. The first traces of population are evident from prehistoric times, through the Illyrians, to the Greeks and Romans. The name Punat is thought to be derived from the Latin word Pons, which means bridge, because it is possible that there was a bridge connecting the narrow passage to Puntarska draga from the south. The name itself was first mentioned in written documents in 1377.

Fisheries, sheep-breeding and olive growing are practiced by almost every family today. In front of the village, in the central part of the shallow draga, lies the wooded islet of Kosljun. Punat - once a well-known wooden shipyard and the headquarters of a strong shipping company - is now a well-known tourist destination thanks to the valorisation of the excursion and tourist values of the Košljun islands and one of the largest and best equipped tourist marinas on the eastern Adriatic coast. Thanks to year-round marina operations and events such as the Croatia cup regatta and the Olive Days, Punat has been visited by foreign visitors even during the off-season.

Well-kept beaches and parks, rich vegetation, hotels, guesthouses, holiday homes, marina Punat - home port for all who enjoy the beauties of the Croatian sea and islands, sports and recreation opportunities (sailing, diving, skiing, surfing, tennis, acgua park, miniature golf , walking, bowling), local food offered in many taverns and restaurants, cultural offerings - especially the islets of Košljun - make Punat a very visited tourist center.
