For more than 30 years, the European Federation of Workers 'and Manufacturers' Sports (EFCS) organizes summer and winter Eurosportfestivals (as part of the new European Sports and Recreation Games) as a core part of its program aimed at mass sporting events for workers and citizens of European countries.

Games are organized every other year in another country, the odd years of summer, and the steam year of the Winter Games. EFCS member states submit their candidacy for households and the Assembly of the European Federation secretly votes the household to the country, or the city that provides the most favorable conditions for the organization.

In a very strong competition, Hamburg, Prague and Lahti, Rovinj has been entrusted to the City of Zagreb and the Croatian Association of Sports Recreation, "Sport for All", the organization of the 17th European Sports and Recreation Games in 2009.

It was a great acknowledgment to the Croatian Sport Sports Federation, but also to the City of Rovinj, which hosted the 7th Eurosport Festival in 1989.

Rovinj, a picturesque town on the west coast of Istria, our most famous tourist region with about 13,000 inhabitants, a pleasant Mediterranean climate and a rich cultural and historical heritage, has become a major tourist center. Due to the specificity of the architecture in the narrow historical core, created in a confined space that conditioned the construction of narrow houses with characteristic chimneys, narrow streets and small squares, Rovinj was proclaimed a cultural monument in 1963.

Rovinj is also a city of sports and sports recreation. In addition to numerous sports clubs, Rovinj has become the center for organizing international kinesiologists' meetings and major sports recreational events, two of which have been held under the auspices of the International Olympic Committee with the rise of the Olympic flag.

Very good transport links, enough accommodation facilities, rich and varied culinary offerings, numerous sports and sports recreational facilities and terrains, many of which will be renovated and some new and built, are enough guarantee that Rovinj will be good and successful host of the 17th European Sports and Recreation Games in 2009.
